Kids Knitting Classes & Fiber Arts Camps

Felting Fiber Arts Camp

Monday to Friday, July 6 to 10, 10:00-2:00

Level: Herbal Ages 7 and up.
Instructor: Susan Dirk
Cost: $225 includes supplies.

Learn how to use the technique of felting to sculpt and paint with wool fiber. With small classes each child will learn how to wet felt with fluffy carded fleece or roving and dry felt with a felting needle. We will do each project step by step together. Although there is no knitting involved, children that know how to knit are encouraged to join and learn more about fiber. While needle felting we’ll interlock the wool fibers with a poking technique using a sharp barbed needle and foam pad. Wet felting will be worked with soap, hot water and lots of squishing and rubbing. Students will create flat fabrics and/or solid sculpted objects, like little fuzzy animals. Susan will also demonstrate how to transform a felted sweater from the thrift store into a number of cleverly designed hats and pairs of fingerless gloves. I welcome any felted sweaters that you might have and would be happy to felt them for you before class begins. Please note that because we are using sharp barbed needles each parent is asked to sign a waiver of liability before the class begins. Visit The Big Wooly website at www.TheBigWooly.com to see felted examples. Contact Susan Dirk 206 - 725-9667 if you have questions.

Plan on a _ -1 hour lunch break each day at approx 12:00 to 12:30
